My writing grows a new freelance branch

Writing – Write!  Write!  Write!

This writing advice given to me in the autumn by a super lady, Catrin George who I met in Portugal.  Catrin is a tour guide and author.

For a while now I’ve been thinking about taking a sabbatical from my web content writing and taking a different turn.

Well, how do I move forward with this?  What do I want to write about?  How do I start?   Do I write poems?  Or short stories?  And who am I writing for?  I’m used to clients telling me the topics to write about, and who the audience they want me to write for.  This ‘writing for myself’ thing is challenging.

Similar advice – to write! write! write!

Similar advice was given to me by author Jeff Brown.  I recently embarked on one of his online courses.   For anyone starting out on writing for themselves, he suggests to write for a minimum of 30 minutes a day.  And if you can’t think what to write, then write anything, any words that tumble out, and then take a step back, come back to the words and see if you can put something together with them.

Big changes start with little steps

Finally, I’ve reminded myself that big changes start with little steps.  This is my first little step, to tell the world about my plan.  Maybe in my next post I’ll be able to tell you more about what I’ll be writing about.  But then again, maybe not.  That’s the beauty of an adventure, we never know where it will go, where it will take us, how we will get there, and what we will experience along the way.

So there we go. I’ve sown the seed and I’ve taken the first small steps towards finding my very own authentic writing voice.

And to end with a very BIG thank you to Catrin for her super super advice!
